Does the ancient smell of frankincense and the mystical sounds of Tibetan Temple Bells take your Spirit back to another time? Does the mesmerizing beat of Native American drums and the smell of sweet grass send your Spirit soaring?  If you answered yes, you are not alone. These scents and these sounds touch a part of our soul that longs to sing.  It touches our very essence, reminding us of our true and eternal Self.

Instead of traveling thousands of miles to the Far East or perhaps to the American Southwest, you can create these sacred moments within your own home or even in your back yard garden.  It’s fun and it’s easy.

You’ll need a just a few things to get started:

                        Small table/dresser or bench
                        Candles
                        Incense
                        Sacred Object/Photo

Start by placing your table/altar in a place where you will be able to spend prayerful meditative time undisturbed.  I keep mine near a window facing my fairy garden and bird feeders.  I like the feeling of Mother Nature taking part in my daily meditations.  Some people prefer to have fresh flowers on their altar for the same reason.  As you put your altar together, set forth your intention to make this a sacred place of reflection.  You can even do this out loud, asking your angels and guides or god/goddess for assistance.  We have many helpers in the realm of Spirit who are more than happy to take part in such an auspicious occasion.

Placing a lovely piece of cloth on your altar is a nice way to begin making it sacred.  This cloth may simply be a particular color and fabric that you are fond of, or perhaps as elaborate as a painting on silk.  Choose something that makes you feel as though you are truly in a sacred space.   You are!

Candles are a must.   At least one candle should be present on your altar.  By lighting a candle, you are asking the Light of the Creator to be present in your time of prayer.

Incense, particularly sandalwood, copal or frankincense and myrrh, are wonderful tools for keeping your sacred space clear of any negative energy.   It clears the path for communicating with your angels, guides and the Creator of All.  Once they have been cleansed, crystals and stones are also a terrific way of bringing positive energy to your sacred space.

A photo or statue of an angel, totem animal or spiritual master will bring the energy of that being into your room and into your meditation.  They can also serve as a focal point for your wandering mind during meditation.   Choose one, or choose several that resonate with your sense of Spirit.

Ultimately, your sacred space should serve as a reminder of your connection to the Creator and a place where you can go within the Temple of your Divine Self for daily reflection and renewal.

Enjoy,
Denise
